Press Operator / Trainee

6:00am-4:00pm, four days a week

Job Summary
Efficiently and effectively operate printing presses to maximize quality and production standards. Assist in all other aspects of the operation as needed to meet customer requirements.

Job Duties / Responsibilities

  • Accurate and efficient set-up of the press based on instructions from the job ticket.
  • Make final pre-run inspection and approval or confer with your manager for approval.
  • Make jobs ready by running samples to adjust print quality, registration, color settings and mixings.
  • Maintain production and quality by monitoring output and quality; troubleshooting stoppages and breakdowns; adjusting settings and controls; correcting jams and tears.
  • Perform preventative maintenance on a press such as lubrication, replacement of worn parts and upkeep of rollers in the press.
  • Work with customers on press proofs to ensure we meet their expectations regarding quality and color consistency.
  • Adhere to and follow all safety policies and procedures and good housekeeping practices.


  • Ability to read and communicate in English.
  • High school diploma/GED equivalency required. Trade/vocational school preferred.
  • Minimum of 2 years previous printing experience required.

Physical / Mental / Technical Requirements

  • Requires standing, walking and bending throughout the entire shift. The standard shift is 12 hours.
  • Problem solving skills both in a team atmosphere as well as individually.
  • Basic mechanical/troubleshooting skills.
  • Ability to perform basic arithmetic skills.
  • Ability to work independently with little supervision as well as in a team setting.
  • Ability to work overtime as needed to meet customer demands.
  • Ability to learn new technology and equipment.
  • Ability to work under the pressure of deadlines and schedules.
  • Frequent lifting and carrying materials up to 40 pounds: occasional lifting up to 60 pounds.
  • Requires pushing and pulling of pallet trucks with loads weighing up to 3,000 pounds.
  • Frequent cleaning and maintenance of the press will require the ability to assume awkward body postures while working on the machine.
