What Is FSC?
The Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) is an international, non-profit organization dedicated to responsible forest management. When you buy or specify products with the FSC label, you are supporting well-managed forests, where people, wildlife and the environment benefit from these practices.
FSC Chain Of Custody
In order to claim that a product is FSC-certified, all parties involved with FSC-certified products must have Chain of Custody certification. This ensures that the product is rigorously tracked and documented from the forest to the consumer. American Printing was the first printer in Madison to receive Chain of Custody certification.
Why Does It Matter?
It’s good for the environment: Simply put, it's the right thing to do. FSC certification is globally recognized as being the most credible and strongest system for ensuring well-managed forests and identifying the products manufactured from this wood.
It's good business: Businesses are seeing the value of operating as a green company and advertising this commitment to customers. The FSC label is a powerful tool in attracting customers and conveying a positive image of corporate responsibility.
What You Should Know About FSC-Certified Stock:
- FSC products are not inherently more expensive than non-FSC products.
- As you choose paper, be aware that just because a sheet is recycled does not mean it is necessarily FSC-certified, nor is all FSC-certified stock recycled. Ask your paper supplier or printer to guide you.
- FSC-certified sheets come in a variety of grades and finishes, and many are leading brands that you are familiar with.
- The paper you select determines the FSC label to be used. Your FSC-certified printer will work with the certification agency, to determine the correct label usage and get the appropriate approvals before going to print.
Your role is simple. Consider specifying FSC-certified stock. The benefit now and for future generations is great.
